I have always had a very strong interest and passion in pregnancy, labor,
and birth. Long before I ever planned on having my own kids, I knew I wanted to be a part of this miraculous event...in
one way or another. I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do, or how I was going to get there, but I knew I wanted
to be there. I am now the mother to two beautiful little girls, Sierra-3 years, and Kai'Lani-7 months, and have been with
my wonderful, and very supportive husband, Ken, for almost five years. My girls were both born in a hospital.
Sierra was delivered by a wonderful CNM. This labor and delivery was amazing. Kai'Lani was supposed to be delivered
by the same midwife, but decided to come nine weeks early, and had to be delivered by an OB/Gyn. This
labor and delivery was extremely painful, frightening, and traumatic. But my daughter was much bigger and
healthier than planned, which was the best outcome I could have asked for. I believe that because of the fear
that I had reguarding my preterm baby, I could not concentrate, or just let labor take over my body. I was fighting labor
with every strand of my being. My husband was a WONDERFUL support through it all, but I do believe that if I had that
extra support, I could have possibly relaxed a little bit, which in turn, would have made the labor process a little more
tolerable. I am now practicing as a labor and postpartum doula, with hopes of finishing certification with ALACE*
(Association for Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators) and my long term goal is to become a midwife after my girls are
a little bit older.
